Criteria for Awards

To apply for any of these awards, your abstract must be submitted by 14 July 2008 and the appropriate part of the ABSTRACT SUBMISSION FORM completed.

HSANZ Albert Baikie Memorial Medal
The Albert Baikie Memorial Medal is given to recognise the best presentation, either oral or poster, by a new investigator who is a financial member of the Society. The winner receives a $3,000 prize and is presented with the Baikie Memorial Medal.

This prestigious award is open to new investigators who were awarded their postgraduate qualification (MSc, FRACP, FRCPA or PhD) within the past 5 years. Special consideration may be made by Council for those people who wish to apply for but who, for other reasons, completed their postgraduate qualification more than 5 years ago.

Conditions:

  • Applicants must be financial and either full, trainee or associate members of HSANZ by the time of the Annual Scientific Meeting. You may apply for membership at the same time as you submit your application for this award. Membership forms are available at www.hsanz.org.au
  • Only ONE abstract is to be nominated by each applicant.
  • Previous winners of the award are ineligible.

All applications will be assessed by a sub-committee of the HSANZ and will be judged on the quality and originality of the work and presentation.

The closing date for applications is the same as for abstract submission (14 July 2008) and the award is announced on the last day of the meeting.

Recipients of travel grants are eligible for the Albert Baikie Award but a separate application must be completed for each.

ANZSBT Presidential Symposium Award
This award will be given for the best oral presentation judged on quality and originality as decided by the Council of the ANZSBT. Judging will take place during the meeting and the winner announced on the last day of the meeting.

Please submit your abstract and indicate your interest in this award via the meeting website by 14 July 2008.

ASTH Scientific Medal
The ASTH Scientific Medal is awarded to a new investigator working actively in clinical or laboratory research in the field of thrombosis and haemostasis. Applicants will be judged on the quality of their submitted abstract and an oral presentation. The award winner receives the ASTH Medal, a solid silver medallion and a prize of A$2,000. In addition, there are two runner up awards of A$500 each.

Conditions of Entry:

  • Entrants for the award must be aged 45 years or less on the closing date for submission of abstracts to the annual HAA meeting and be financial members of the ASTH.
  • The main author and entrant must be a clinician, nurse, scientist or technologist working actively in the field of thrombosis and haemostasis.
  • The award will be judged on the basis of a) the abstract submitted for the annual meeting and b) an oral presentation. For those entrants submitting posters, there will be an opportunity to present their work to the judging panel.
  • Only one abstract can be submitted for the competition by each entrant and invited speakers are not eligible to enter.
The award will be judged by a panel of experts drawn from the ASTH membership. The judging and the award of prizes will take place at the HAA meeting.
