| To apply for a Travel Grant, your abstract must be submitted by 13 July 2009 and the appropriate part of the ABSTRACT SUBMISSION FORM completed.
Grants are provided by HSANZ, ANZSBT and ASTH and members may apply for all but may receive a grant from one, but not all three Societies.
HSANZ/Roche New Investigators Travel Award
The Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand, supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Roche, provides a number of travel grants.
General criteria
To be eligible all applicants must
- be current, financial members of the Society (you may apply for membership when you submit your application for the award). Membership forms are available at www.hsanz.org.au . Applications must be received by the HSANZ Secretariat by the end of July 2009.
- submit an abstract to the HAA meeting (apply for the travel grant online when submitting your abstract)
- register for the meeting by the abstract submission date 13 July 2009
- have attained their post graduate qualification in Australia or overseas (MSc, FRACP, FRCPA, PhD or overseas equivalent) within the past 5 years. Trainee members are eligible but members in positions where funding for travel is normally provided (eg hospital staff specialists) will not be considered for travel awards, and
- be proposed and the proposer’s contact details provided.
Applications will be assessed by the HSANZ Council and applicants will be advised of the outcome four weeks before the meeting. Applicants may also apply for the Albert Baikie Award, by completing the appropriate part of the online application.
HSANZ Medical Laboratory Scientists and Nurses Travel Grants
Three travel grants will be awarded to members who are medical laboratory scientists working in hospital or private service haematology laboratories, and 3 grants awarded to nurses. General criteria as outlined above apply to these awards.
ANZSBT/Pharmaco Travel Grants
Applicants must be current financial members of the Society, must submit an abstract and register for the meeting. The ANZSBT Council will decide on travel grants. Applicants will be informed of the outcome by the ANZSBT Secretariat.
ANZSBT Asian/Pacific Islands Travel Grant
This grant is awarded to assist a person from East Asia or the Pacific Island nations to attend the HSANZ/ANZSBT/ASTH Annual Scientific Meeting. It is open to any person who is actively working in any area of blood transfusion (medical, scientific, nursing, administration). The grant of up to AUD$2,000 must be used towards the cost of airfares and accommodation. Free registration to the meeting will be provided. The award is advertised in June each year. ASTH Travel Grant
Applicants must be current financial members of the Society, must submit an abstract and register for the meeting. The ASTH Council will decide on travel grants and applicants will be informed of the outcome by the ASTH Secretariat.
HAA 2009 Travel Grant for Non-Members
At the discretion of the Conference Organising Committee, a small number of travel grants may be awarded to non-members to help defray annual meeting travel expenses. These awards are open to registrants from Australia and New Zealand and from abroad. The awards are co-funded by HSANZ, ANZSBT and ASTH. Awards are intended for those who demonstrate a need for financial assistance with preference for those who submit an abstract. A covering letter should be provided, including sufficient detail for the Conference Organising Committee to determine the level of assistance required.

For all travel grants, please submit your abstract and indicate your interest in a travel grant via the ABSTRACT SUBMISSION FORM by 13 July 2009.
