Abstracts... ANZSGM / IMSANZ Instructions for Submitting AbstractsThe Organising Committee is calling for abstracts from those wishing to present oral or poster papers at the 2007 Meeting. The submission of abstracts is actively encouraged on topics relevant to the societies' areas of interest, including the key topics of the Meeting:
- evaluating scientific papers
- dementia for the generalist and the geriatrician
- gait disorders
- stroke
- implantable cardiac devices
- osteoporosis
- exercise and ageing
- cardiac arrhythmias
- metabolic syndrome
- under-nutrition in the elderly
- enteral feeding
- peri-operative care
Available type of presentation:
Oral papers will be scheduled during one of the concurrent sessions - length of presentation will be 10 minutes plus 5 minutes question time.
Poster papers will be displayed for the duration of the Meeting. Instructions for the presentation and formatting of posters will be sent to relevant authors.
Guidelines for Formatting
- Type in English and use a 12 point Arial font with single line spacing.
- Margins to be set at 2.5 cm on all sides.
- Do not exceed 250 words, excluding title and authors' names and addresses, and if possible limit the abstract to text only.
- Title: The abstract title should be in initial capital/lower case, not all capitals. It should not exceed 20 words - if the title extends to a second line, use single spacing.
- Authors: Authors' names should be in the surname last format and should be in initial capital/lower case, not all capitals. Institutional affiliations should be indicated with superscript numbers following each author name. Do not include titles or degrees (e.g J Brown1, Y Smith2)
- Affiliation: All affiliations should contain organisation, city and country only with superscript number linked to relevant author.
- Leave a double space and proceed with the abstract, using single spacing. Do not indent paragraphs.
- Abstracts related to studies must contain the aims of the study, methods, results and conclusion. If using headings such as Aims, Methods - please use bold font for headings.
- Abstracts may include a single figure or table. Use a tab, not spaces, to separate data points in tables.
- Abbreviations should be used only for common terms. For uncommon terms, the abbreviation should be given in brackets after the first full use of the term.
- References: References are optional and should be used sparingly.
Please indicate on the submission form:
- which group you are submitting to (ANZSGM or IMSANZ)
- whether the abstract is for oral or poster presentation
- whether you are an advanced trainee in geriatric or internal medicine or whether the work being presented was substantially undertaken when you were an advanced trainee
- whether you have received the FRACP within the last 5 years.
GENERAL INFORMATION
- Abstracts received after the closing date and not conforming to these guidelines will not be considered.
- Abstracts will be reviewed by the Program Committee and will be judged on content and relevance. Abstracts on topics outside the immediate focus of the meeting are welcomed. Statements in the text such as "the results will be discussed" should be avoided.
- Authors will be advised via email of the selection no later than mid July.
- Accuracy is the responsibility of the author - please proof read your document carefully for spelling and grammar. Successful abstracts will be printed exactly as received
All abstracts are to be submitted using the ANZSGM / IMSANZ ONLINE ABSTRACT SUBMISSION FORM
TIMETABLE FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS
On-line submission will end on 9 June 2007, at close of business
The Program Committee will then review the abstracts
The Program Committee is expected to make its final decision regarding the abstract selection within 4 weeks of the closing date
Notification of acceptance or rejection of the abstract will be emailed to the submitting author
Acceptance or otherwise is at the discretion of the Program Committee
Submission of abstract implies the author's agreement to publish the abstract in any publications associated with the conference.
Please note all presenting speakers must register for the Conference and pay the applicable fee.
