Invitation to Attend

It is my pleasure to invite you to join the South Australian Branch of the Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, RANZCP, for Child2010 at the Novotel Barossa Valley Resort, 7-10 October October, 2010.

Our theme Tracking Trajectories - influences on developmental pathways from infancy to whatever is reflected in our return to the Barossa Valley Resort, the venue for our 2002 Conference. From the Conference venue we will gaze across the Valley at the native gums in the creek beds, the land of the Peramangk and the Ngadjuri, the traditional owners whose land we will be borrowing for our meeting. Imposed on the native landscape will be the symmetrical plantings of the vines interposed with the spires of the Lutheran churches built by protestant Prussians fleeing persecution in their home land. In the distance we will see Angaston, home of George Fife Angas, a pre-eminent pioneer responsible for the systematic colonization of South Australia from overcrowded, poverty and crime-ridden London, capital of an England governed by an intertwining of the Church and the State with little tolerance for dissenting voices.

The issues reflected in the vista from Child2010, alienation, persecution, disenfranchisement, subjugation of dissent, will be a reminder of the issues of development "from infancy to whatever". It will be the task of Child2010 to explore the intertwining biopsychosocial influences on that development through keynote addresses, workshops, themed symposia, papers and poster sessions. In these early stages of planning we are delighted that Daniel Hughes, a leading figure in attachment trauma and realtionship therapy, and Jerome Hughes, whose main expertise in in attachment based psychotherapy, have accepted our invitation to be keynote speakers.

The scientific program will be complemented by a social program allowing us to explore the tradition, cuisine and wines of the Barossa Valley. A highlight will be the Child 2010 Dinner at The Farm Function Centre run by sisters Saskia and Elli Beer continuing the tradition started by Maggie Beer, co-presenter of TV's The Cook and the Chef.

In your leisure moments the Barossa Valley will demand closer exploration through walking trails, winery tours and browsing around the towns and villages. Fitness can be maintained by bike hire, golf courses and the Resort's swimming pool.

As your hosts the SA Branch will endeavour to ensure that you will have a rewarding scientific and social experience. Please join us.
